Ruminations Studio's production process is evolving as we grow. At the moment of this writing the creation of new collections is happening twice yearly: Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter.
Each collection is uniquely curated from pieces we make ourselves and those we source from other artisans. We acquire jewelry making materials and finished pieces from international vendors and artisans all over the world. In fact, a single piece of jewelry made by Ruminations Studio is almost always made of components pieced together from at least three different countries. It follows, then, that the first step to putting together a collection is locating vendors. This part is time consuming and can take many months as small scale artisans in places with limited tech access is not always easy. The process of looking for and finding people is challenging but very rewarding! For us, building connections with people around the world is profoundly satisfying.
The design and assembly begins when the sourcing odyssey comes full circle; when all the materials are through customs, arrived and unpacked at our studio! It is difficult to describe the excitement as we watch all the pieces connect in this magical period when we are truly surrounded by global inspiration!
Our creative process begins by laying everything out in a single space. Next we sort everything we have acquired into distinct groups that will eventually become collections. We sort by looking for finished pieces and components that are complementary in color, texture and design. The final step is to create our own pieces out of the jewelry making components we have sourced. Our primary design motivation is to create pieces that reflect our own lived experiences and to place them alongside the designs of others in a way that is both complementary and harmonious.
It is important to us that the pieces we have created ourselves are easily distinguished from those we have sourced from other artisans. You will note the pieces that are made exclusively by Ruminations Studio by their designation.
The final step is to photograph and list the collections here in our online boutique!
